Why "good kid, m.A.A.d city" has spent eight straight years on the Bilboard 200

It's been nine years since Kendrick Lamar released his debut "good kid m.A.A.d city," but the album is still marking milestones. In 2019, it was tied with Eminem's "The Eminem Show" for longest time on the charts after hitting 350 weeks. Now, with over 450 weeks on the Billboard 200, it is now the longest-charting hip-hop album in history.

Recorded most in Los Angeles, the album boasts notable producers who include Dr. Dre, Pharrell Williams, Hit-Boy, and Just Blaze.Together, they produced a nonstop stream of hit singles that included "The Recipe," "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe," and "Poetic Justice."

The album was a hit from the start, debuting at Number 2 on the Billboard 200. Lamar came away with four 2014 Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.been

While its position on the Billboard 200 has wavered, it has never dropped off the charts. It even hit Top 10 again in Billboard's Top Album Sales chart due to Christmas purchases last year, which drove the album from Number 23 to Number 9. The album has been certified triple platinum.

More Record-Breaking for Lamar

Not satisfied to rest on early career accomplishments, Kendrick Lamar continues to astound.

In 2019, his song "All the Stars" became the lead single of the soundtrack for "Black Panther. The song won an Oscar nomination for Best Original Sound, one of seven Oscar nominations given to the film. In total, Lamar wrote and produced 14 songs for the movie's soundtrack.

His 2015 release "To Pimp a Butterfly" is the most widely acclaimed album of the 2010s based on statistics from Metacritic. While he quickly followed that with "DAMN." he's been on hiatus since while he focuses on other projects.

The wait for a new Kendrick Lamar album could be over soon. Multiple sources close to the rapper have said that an album is likely to be released this year. Lamar is also scheduled for his only live show this year in November, when he'll take the stage at 2021's Day N Vegas festival.
